The Dark Landscape Patchwork Pillow is a textile artwork inspired by the changing light and layered landscape of Edinburgh’s Arthur’s Seat and the surrounding city. Working in deep, tonal blues, this piece explores contrast and quiet movement, with a rising sun that symbolises hope, endurance, and the promise that darkness is never permanent.
Handcrafted using crazy patchwork, the design is shaped by the materials themselves—curves, angles, and geometric forms emerge naturally from the reclaimed fabric off-cuts available in the studio. This intuitive process allows each piece to develop its own rhythm and balance. The sun is formed from reclaimed slub silk, sourced second-hand, adding texture and a soft luminosity to the composition.
Made entirely from reclaimed materials, this pillow sits somewhere between functional object and textile art.
